Games for mobile controllers
Astra One is a universal mobile gaming controller that attaches to most smartphones, instantly turning it into a portable gaming console. Here are some of of our top picks to play with the Astra One. All the games listed below were used extensively for testing the controller during our pre-launch phase. Here’s Abhijeet to tell you more about his experience:
Asphalt 8 has been my go to game even when taking a break from design & testing. While the games work fine with the default touch/gyro controls of a phone, playing it with a controller takes it to the next level. And it’s a thing of joy when you get the right balance of throttle, front brakes and steering to pull a perfect drift.
GTA: SA often evokes a feeling of nostalgia for a time when games were not just about eye candy and graphics but relied on great story telling and mechanics instead.
I have rather fond memories of GTA: SA from that earlier era while playing it on a Playstation 2 so I jumped on the buy button when it came out for Android.
Unfortunately the touch control schema was a big letdown especially when compared to the joy of playing it with the original DualShock2 controller.
My recent experience of playing it with the Ninjadog Astra One during our testing phase was evocative of the same original experience and I have no qualms in recommending this strongly for our Astra One customers.
Shredder’s Revenge is a beat ’em up game developed by Tribute Games and published by Dotemu. It is inspired by and based on the 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series and borrows stylistically from the arcade and home console Turtles games developed by Konami during the 1980s and 1990s.
If you like brawlers that rely on pulling perfect key combos, this should be on your must play list. And if you are feeling like taking a bit of a shortcut (wink, wink!) , use the programmable macro triggers to record your preferred moves to pull yourself out of a tight spot whenever you need!
I just about touched the surface of the possibilities that are available with a dedicated controller.
My colleague Prabhakar is leaning over my shoulder to say that he has been having a great time with emulators including PPSSPP (PSP emulator) and Dolphin (Gamecube / Wii emulator) with his unit.
Apparently he has also been messing around with various Battle Royales like Fortnite and intends to write a couple of blog posts on these two usage scenarios along with detailed guides in the coming weeks.
